Safeguarding Article 35A : ‘Only Modi can allay the doubts of people’ Mir, Tarigami and Hakim meet Mehbooba | KNO

“The proposed abrogation of article 35A will have serious ramification and to avoid more bloodshed in the State particularly in Kashmir Valley, it becomes necessary that the leaders from all like-minded parties get together and meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he is the only person who can allay the doubts of people of Kashmir,” senior political leader and former Minister Ghulam Hasan Mir told news agency CNS shortly after his meeting with the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti at her Gupkar residence here in Kashmir capital Srinagar.

Democratic Party Nationalist President Ghulam Hasan Mir, CPI (M) State Secretary, M Y Tarigami, PDF Chairman Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen called on Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday.

“The Chief Minister was anxious and showed concern about the petition filed by an NGO seeking abrogation of Article 35A in the apex court of the country,” Mir said.

“We met the Chief Minister with the sole intent to find ways and means to save this article from getting abrogated. We arrived at this conclusion that leaders from all the like-minded political parties should meet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and apprise him about the ramifications in case Article 35A is removed,” he said.

Ghulam Hasan Mir said that like other mainstream leaders, the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was also equally concerned and sought suggestions from us. “She badly wants to safeguard this article while we appealed to her to take effective measures in the Supreme Court and also make deliberations with the Central Government so that it is not abrogated,” Mir said.

“The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction over the fact that all political parties barring one or two are on the same page. We informed the Chief Minister to take all the like-minded leaders of all the three regions including Jammu, Ladakh and Kashmir on board, as the abrogation of this article will directly affect the whole State,” he said and added that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti assured us that all measures will be taken to safeguard and protect this article, which she called the ‘soul’ of the article 370.

Hakim Muhammad Yasin who was also part of the meeting said that Chief Minister is extremely worried and wants to protect this article at any cost. “We told her that a hell like situation will emerge in Jammu and Kashmir if this article is touched. She agreed and assured us that she will personally meeting the Central Government leadership including the Prime Minister of the country,” he said.

Muhamamd Yousuf Tarigami was not available for comments as his phone was switched off. (CNS)
